PETER MACARA
     Cairo, 1994
     acrylic on canvas, 56 x 44 "
     Hutson Gallery

The inspiration for this piece came from an old mosaic fountain seen in Cairo. The variations of patterns in the tiles were remarkable for their diversity. What you see is based on recollections from the experience. These paintings are not replicas of extant objects, but rather interpretations, filtered through the subjective lens of one's memory.

In 2010, this work and 2 others were selected for extended loan (3 years) to the American Embassy in Lisbon, Portugal.
